In March 2024, a construction client called at 9 AM needing 500 pairs of cut-resistant gloves for a crew starting night shift the next day. The vendor's website said "In stock—ships within 24 hours." I confirmed by phone. They said yes, it ships today.
It shipped the day after. The crew worked the first night with inadequate gloves. No injuries, thankfully, but the client was furious. We paid $400 in overnight shipping to fix it.
Now I always ask three questions:
- "What time is your shipping cutoff today?"
- "Will this order make that cutoff?"
- "Can you send me a tracking number by end of day?"
If the vendor can't answer all three, I call the next one. Not worth the risk.
Checkpoint: Do you have a tracking number and a confirmed ship date? Verbal assurance isn't enough.
Step 5: Calculate Total Cost, Not Just Unit Price

Step 6: Order a Sample Before Committing to Bulk
